The New York City’s Division of School Facilities is seeking experienced Custodian Engineers (CE) who possess refrigeration licenses to manage custodian operations in select schools throughout New York City. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the physical operation, maintenance, repair and upkeep and the immediate grounds. Custodian Engineers will manage staff associated with the functions. The CEs will also be a part of an innovative efforts regarding preventative maintenance, generalized increased energy efficiency and long term cost savings for the DOE.
The Division of School Facilities is dedicated to providing a safe, clean and comfortable environment that is conducive to educating and nurturing our students in the most economical and efficient manner. DSF is primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair, safe and efficient operation of all facilities under the jurisdiction of the City of New York’s public school system. Currently, DSF oversees approximately 130 million square feet of floor space that makes up the infrastructure of over 1,300 school buildings throughout the five boroughs. The average age of these facilities is about 60 years old.
In addition to the refrigeration license, qualified candidates will include those with a HS diploma and one year of experience in operating a boiler-based central heating system along with progressive experience in maintaining buildings and supervising staff who are engaged in these activities. The salary for this position is contingent upon square footage of building supervised. Generous health care packages are offered along with union benefits.
